Early Herriott history starts in Scotland and the name is still common in the Edinburgh area. David Herriott emigrated from Scotland to America in 1685 but whether or not he came on the Henry and Francis is unclear. He settled in New Jersey and has many descendants in America today, the so-called New Jersey line. There have been a number of other Herriotts emigrate to America. These include the Heriots of South Carolina whose ancestors emigrated from Scotland in the middle of the 18th century. We also have identified a line of Herriotts who came to America in the 18th century after first passing through Ireland. These we have dubbed our Belfast line. Herriotts are also found throughout the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
